Oiled Wildlife Response Seminar
The goal of this workshop is to teach and train individuals that are interested in volunteering to assist an Oiled Wildlife Response Team during a spill event. The workshop covers topics such as the effects of oil on wildlife, intake and examinations of oiled wildlife, an introduction to OSHA training, wildlife rehabilitation’s role in Incident Command System, and actual hands on cleaning of oiled feathers in which participants will practice by washing an un-oiled white duck. This training event is provided to the community by the Wildlife Center of Texas and Texas General Land Office and is supported by the membership of the Corpus Christi Area Oil Spill Control Association.
USCG Hands-On Training
To better prepare USCG staff for oil spill response events, hands on training occurs at the CCAOSCA facility in the Corpus Christi Ship Channel on an annual basis. This training allows USCG personnel to work with experienced oil spill response staff utilizing specialized oil spill response cleanup equipment. Exercises include operating work boats, setting booms, setting up skimming systems, operating a Marco skimmer and also deploying an Elastec TDS-136 Skimming system. Participants from the response community typically include the USCG, Texas General Land Office, Marine Spill Response Corporation and other state and local agencies, as well as industry partners.
